At first, I wasn’t very sure I wanted to spend a sunny July afternoon inside a museum, but boy was I wrong. First of all, this isn’t your typical museum, confined within walls, this opens out into a field where aircrafts are flown and Ford Model T rides are raced, well, not exactly raced but you get the idea.
Just three miles from the scenic Owls Head Lighthouse (where we were attacked by bees), and two miles south of Rockland on Rt 73 you will find the Owls Head Transportation Museum, and if you are in the area, I suggest you take a peek. I could go on and on about the models on display, the antique cars (s0me were for sale), engines, the full-size replica of the Wright Brothers’ Kitty Hawk Flyer, motorcycles, the entire section dedicated to the MG (my grandfather drove one of those) and so on and so forth. But if I had to use just one word to describe the place, I would have to say vintage. It was all so vintage.
Our nine-month-old, who cries every time he hears the blender (or the vacuum cleaner) surprisingly did not seem to mind the whirring sound of the old engines as three planes took off into the cerulean sky, one after the other, carefully choreographed I would think.
After yesterday’s long hike, we were glad to take it easy in a museum, a nice open one with plenty of sunshine for company.
