I have yet to see a football player but there’s plenty more to cheer for at the Gaylord Texan; officially the hotel of the Dallas Cowboys.
The premier resort is designed around a huge glass atrium with a meandering stream, dancing fountains, flowering promenades, art exhibits, delicious cantinas and Tex-mex eateries and, you won’t believe this – the only vineyard in the world within a hotel! In the fall, the Chambourcin grapevines yield a blushing red variety that produce a classic red wine.
After today’s assignment, I rushed to enjoy a horseshoe-shaped hot tub alongside a refreshing swimming pool flowing with cascading waterfalls. I tossed myself into the bright blue water dipping under the gully-washers for a well-earned shoulder rub. Open until midnight, I was curious why I was the only bather enjoying the amenities.
Then, I noticed the Paradise Springs shuttle escorting families to the nearby western-themed waterpark. The 10-acre complex features lawn games, slides, a zipline and 27-foot-tall waterslide. There are 1,200 lounge chairs, beach chairs and family-style rounds, so there’s room for everybody. Pools are for resort guests only.
Oh sure, you can visit historic Grapevine if you have time, but, if not – don’t worry, if the Gaylord Texan is big enough for Tony Romo, it’s more than enough for you.
