Is There Time To Work Out This Morning? Is There?

by Max Hartshorne on June 1, 2009

Now it’s crunch time. It’s that moment when it can go either way…I’m at the precipice, deciding about how I will continue this morning routine. I’m in the bathrobe, on the laptop, and Cindy is busy getting dressed. We’ve had our coffee, I’m draining my second cup.

So do I work out or blow it off and get ready to go to the office and cafe?

Too many times I’ve let work get in the way of these rejuvenatiung work-outs. I could say that I worked out yesterday, so why bother. Hey, we DID get up at 6, earlier than usual, just to give us extra time.

So I guess there’s no way around it. I’ll put on my work out gear and pack my copy of the latest book about traveling through the former USSR, and get on the Elyptical. Yeah, I think I’m leaning toward doing ‘the right thing.’

Don’t let me get sidetracked, I’m going for it…..yeah, really.

Ok. I just read your blog about your visit to Beaumont and I have many questions for you.1. WTF? Calder is no where near the ‘main drag’ of the city. That area is a depressed junction between the west end and the downtown area, which has more problems than a cat in a rocking chair factory. The ‘Main Drag’ is the Dowlen road area where the restaurants and shops abound by the dozens and feature great local food from great places like Jason’s Deli, Tokyo, Madison’s, JoJo’s, and more. Rao’s is awesome but hardly the center of communication that you make it out to be…Poblano is ok…the lady smirked about the chef giving away free food because they recently filed ch 11 bankruptcy and are in the process of being evicted. just go to the beaumont enterprise website and do the research yourself…Easy’s is a quaint little restaurant but in no way indicitve of the quality service and culinary bar that this city has to offer. It is almost like you did no real research at all and was guided through town and told what certain individuals wanted you to hear to promote their personal agenda..Calder is not being ripped up and re-bricked for any reason other than anytime it rains the whole old town area floods. I know. I live there. Downtown Beaumont is a collection of half assed bars that feature banana pudding wrestling and 50 draft. great tourist attraction.you article is a joke. Next time you come here let us know so we can show you the true city and the great stuff it has to offer.and ps…SilsBEE. Not Silsby.

We’ve fixed said errata. i was guided by people who invited me, apparently we saw the parts of the city they were most enthusiastic about. At the end of your blazing critique you invite me to come back? are you going to be nicer?

you were guided by people that have an agenda and vision that is not shared with the majority of the city.next time you plan on coming to beaumont take the time yourself to ask locals where they recomend. not some one who is paid by the city to push tax abated projects down the throats of 'tourists'..example…there is a billboard (several in fact) that tell people to exit I10 for family fun and dining at Crockett street.Last week they had hardcore metal bands, pudding wresting, homemade bikin contests and countless arrests for public intoxication, fighting and underage consumption.Truly a jewel to be admired.

I think that the Anonymous writer does make a point. These tourism bureau type trips do lose authenticity and therefore some releavance to someone who is going on a self-funded trip. Max should be aware of that when he writes these smarmy blogs. That being said, the cat in the rocking chair factory comment was a gem unto itself.
