There’s something about Africa that makes people wax lyrical, an get all poetic when they describe the amazing sites like the wild game, the undulating orange wavy sand (see!?) and the gentle people they meet while traveling just about anywhere on the vast continent.

Writer Janis Turk visited Namibia for a luxury safari holiday a few years ago, and gushed about how much it changed her. “And like one who picks up a Bible and drops her finger on a passage for a message from above, in my tent on safari in Namibia, I pick up Isak Dinesen’s Out of Africa and am pleased to fall upon this line:

After a little while, you became aware of how still it was out here. Now, looking back on my life in Africa, I feel that it might altogether be described as the existence of a person who had come from a rushed and noisy world into a still country.”

You can find just about all of the luxury amenities you’d expect to find in London or in Greenwich CT out there in the bush. Not only hot showers, white tablecloths, and the finest wines, but huge screened in rooms and some of the most comfortable beds you’ve ever slept in.  It’s a whole new world of high-end resorts, top notch game viewing, and of course, very civilized sundowner cocktails on these trips.
