One of the most magical places I have ever visited is the Ladakh region in Jammu and Kashmir. Getting there is tough. But once you reach there, it is paradise. This picture was taken on our second day in Ladakh.
This is also from the same day as above, only I turned in a different direction from where I took the first picture. I was sitting at a high up place near the main monestary in the city and taking these shots. When I look at these photos, there is a strong urge to go back to Ladakh. But it won’t happen this year. Maybe next year we will visit the place again.
And this one was taken on the day before our departure, quite late in the evening. Near the bus stand there us a sports field and next to it is this temple.
I am so sitten by Ladakh that I recommend it to everyone, it is a must see destination in India. And the raods generally open in June. So what are you waiting for?

Prahask and Radhika, thank you for your comments.
ur snaps r really amazing! am awestruck!
Hi Mridula, Your photographs are really good. Fortunately me and my group also travel bugs, but we normally roam in maharashtra, we done quite a few trek. Do you generally travel with Youth Hostel Association of India or do you have a group? Cause they also arrenged treks like,’Har Ki Dun’ and ‘Sar Pass’. Just like you we also do photography. We generally click wildlife and landscapes. I got your blog via one comment, which i got on my workby Rupesh. Good clicks.
Arya, great that you are going to Ladakh. Share your pics and stories. Regarding hotels, we stayed at a small place called Khayul. Leh is generally very peaceful, so even if you stay right in the centre of the city it would be OK. I do not know how expensive an accomodation you are looking for, but my feeling is that th places close to the main market or what is also called the Fort road are more expensive. Moving away from it, one can find similar accomodation for less. I have not tried home stay but a friend did manage to do that and found it quite enjoyable. Do let me know if I can help with something else. Have a super vacation.
read up sme really exciting stuff on the net abt ladakh.going there in june fr 3 wks.cud u suggest sme nice place to stay;quiet & peaceful.I don’t mind smething out of the main town.

Rich, you are lucky, next year I too will head to ladakh once again.
You guys are telling me;))) I was in Ladakh (Leh, Korzok, Karnak, Rupshu) in 2003; trekking and climbing. I’m heading there again, in about two months. This time it’ll be cycling. Can’t wait;)))BTW, great photos;)
Shruthi, I was bugging my husband to go to ladakh again this year, but he keeps telling me we will go again next year.Quaminante, if you get an opportunity, surely go.
It’s on my list, though I don’t think I’m likely to get there anytime soon… Beautiful photos, the light is incredible.
Lovely photos. For sure on my must-visit lists.
Max, the intext links are gone. Do tell me if there are other problems too, features you don’t like?
Max, give me a day or two, I find out more about it, either I remove the inline links (or is it the popups?) that annoy people or I have some other ads that do not annoy my readers.
Mridulai would advise that you remove the paid links that pop up ads…these annoy the reader and don’t make the experience of reading this lovely blog better. you can’t possibly earn enough to make it worth it can you?
Tarun, it is a beautiful place, go there as soon as possible.
Ladakh is really beautiful place one of in my wish list to visit…..
Deepak, you should go to Ladakh and you would bring back such wonderful photographs.
Stunning photos, Mridula! Your photos always manage to get me homesick
Ladakh is definitely on my itinerary this time when I get back home!
That is why probably there are so few Indian tourists in Ladakh. The place is full of people from other countries.
Okay. Looks like Ladakh’s out then. We’re lazy people.
Anirudh, Ladakh is not that expensive but it is high altitude, so if you wish to go there, one has to read about altitude sickness and stuff. Also, traveling by road is very tiring and by air very expensive. That said, Ladakh is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited.
My friends and I are thinking of going somewhere for fun. How expensive is Ladakh?
Me too, I am so impatient to travel but can do so only in June.
wow, those are really some stunning photos. this entry makes me want to start planning my next trip.
Lily, I keep repeating myself, yes Ladakh is a must see destination.TT, if you could do that, it would ge really great.
I’m waiting for a good plane ticket so I can get there! The pictures are awesome.
These pictures are beautiful. Ladakh is definitely on the itinerary for our next trip.
