What is the most visited destination in India?
a) Goa
b) Agra- Taj Mahal
c) Rajasthan
d) Tirupati
What is your guess?
Hindustan Times, citing Incredible India Website (though I can find only 2005 data) says it is Tirupati, followed by Taj Mahal.

Oh Sidhu! But the travel agents flaunt the ‘monument for love’ angle to death too!
Well, obviously, since the Taj can’t grant any one’s wishes…:D
Priyank, we are in no hurry to go to Tirupati. And thanks a ton for sharing your thoughts.
I would have thought “Mumbai” or “Delhi” would be the most visited place. There are hundreds of people arriving daily!Don’t go to Tirupati. The priests are impolite, the temple authorities are irrational, pilgrims are filthy and the whole place is unwelcome in general.Indeed, with money comes arrogance and ego. I feel pained to see the Vatican of Hindusim in such a state.
Thank you all for the interesting angles and for your choices. I have been to the Taj three times but not even once to Tirupati, and after hearing Sesha’s accounts of the place I am not in any hurry.
may be we should a sentimental angle to the Taj too, like lovers get married if they go to Taj
and then more people would be visiting
Tirupati or Taj.. one of these.
I guessed Tirupati and totally agree with Celine. I have been there 3 times.
I was certain it was Tirupathi for the simple reason that pilgrimage tourism is more popular than leisure (or cultural) tourism. I recall reading some place there are about 1 lakh visitors to Tirupathi everyday!
Well, I did guess Tirupati and Taj, though I couldnt decide between the two
