I am a big fan of the BBC and now they also get associated with the Lonely Planet.
BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, has bought the travel guide publisher, Lonely Planet. … The purchase fits in with BBC plans to grow online revenues and expand operations in America and Australia.Lonely Planet also produces travel programmes and its web site receives 4.3 million visitors a month.
The Wheelers, who owned the business along with John Singleton, will retain a 25% shareholding in the company.

I agree that ‘Lonely Planet’ guides are very well organized and provide detailed travel info. However, last year I bought “Rough Guides” on India and found it more informative (for my kind of travel). I’m sure you can easily get Rough Guides in all major cities in India. Its US price is $25-27. “Travel Channel” has few very interesting programs – recently, it aired a series “1,000 Places to See Before You Die”. The Lonely Planet guides are the best in business.The BBC should actually be able to make improvements on account of the huge amounts of resources at its disposal, worldwide.:)

Thats good…My interest in traveling started after i watched a similar show called – Intamate escape in Discovery. That episode was on Maldives. Havent been able to plan a trip there yet…but will sometime.
i used to be hypnotized by the Lonely Planet in yesteryears, ere it became GlobeTrotter on Discovery. The tune..it is ringing fresh in my head still.
