Remembrance

On my own I would not have walked in. I was not sure if walking in a cemetery would be disrespectful. But then a few days back I had seen a post by Rocksea and Sarah about cemeteries from around the world. So I thought I would go inside.

The Final Destination

I have to admit that I felt a little strange inside the cemetery. I was the only person around and at the gate there was a girl inside what looked like an office. I stopped for a while, was not sure if I should click pictures (but then remembered the Rocksea and Sarah post again). Then I got out.

I was the Only Person Around
Justify Full
The I saw this post by Jackie Callahan today-
… in the days when my husband, John, and I, traveled on the road as musicians, we would frequently find ourselves in some city where the only place we could find peace, and a bit of greenery, was often the town cemetery.

Now if I had seen this post before maybe I would not have been so scared of being disrespectful, because that is the last thing I would like to come across.

P.S. I found the name of the cemetery, Torrisholme via Indiamike.

The feelings, the questions, the peace and sereniy you get at a cemetery is something special. Wonderful photographs, Mridula. Especially the last one is composed beautifully. In some locations, it is considered a no-no to take photographs. Usually there are signposts to say that. If there is a staff around, it is better to notify them. Anyways the main factor would be to have some respect/regard in our hearts, for those at rest.Recently we went to a beautiful and famous "cemetery island" in venice, but photography was forbidden there.

Nisha, after more discussion at Indiamike, I have realized that it is not impolite to visit a cemetery. But I can understand your hesitation.Tarun, I hope MJ is having a well earned rest for a while Thanks for sharing your experiences.Indica, I hope you are having a good time in the US.Bindu, now that you have said it I too have noticed the angle keenly.Lunatic, thank you. And for your screen name, can you ever imagine anyone saying, "Lunatic thank you!"Priyanka I am also quite new to the experience and the idea itself.

A hint of piousness..I want to share something here…Few years ago one of my relative told me that the cremation ground is a place where you can really get some peace…And I understood why when I first went there (Nigambodh Ghat) two years ago..though the mood was very sombre…but peace there had no parallel..even amongst dead…there were no fear…Anyhow..On the contrary would MJ be redoing thriller from the grave :P

Very beautiful post, Mridula. Like you, I would not have even thought of going there and clicking pictures. Even after reading this and other posts, I don't think I can gather courage to disturb the quietness. Bravo you !
