Mridula’s Dream of Antarctica with Sir Robert Swan’s 2041

It started at Baiguney with Club Mahindra’s conClay. I heard Dr. Priya Venkatesh talk about her expedotion to Antarctica with 2041. I was hooked.

So I decided to apply for the 2013 expedition with Sir Robert Swan and guess what? I got accepted. That is part A. And if you are wondering why is Sir Swan’s expedition called 2041 it is because in that year the no drilling, no mining Antarctica treaty is coming up for review. The expeditions main aim is to raise the awareness about the treaty and environment. Watch this video and lets move to part B.

Step B is to raise 22,000 dollars plus air fare and gear! I decided to raise the individual funds via FirstGiving. I decided to go with FirstGiving because it transfers the money directly to Sir San’s 2041 and I do not come in picture anywhere as far as the money is concern!

I am obviously scared that it is a big amount that I am trying to raise but what fun the life is if I never tried anything bigger than me? For of course this trip, the goal of the trip, the continent, everything is bigger than me. So I know I can’t do this alone. I need your help.

If you wish do donate to 2041 via my cause.

I also need your help in spreading out the word!

The first donation came my way from where else but Gonomad, they have always supported me. A big thank you to you MAx for getting things started. Other friends have also donated, some anonymously, they know who they are and many thanks to them as well. A special thanks goes to my EBC trekking partner Diana Trang who probably understands the wanderlust and donated!

This is my first attempt at fund raising and I have to say I am learning a lot! All my other trips have been out of my own pocket or I was invited! But then if I never tried anything larger than me what is the point?

I have to thank 2 anonymous (we know who we are and you have my thanks) and Anil and Apurva for their contributions to my cause. Thank you so much.

Three friends blogged about my trip and fund raising efforts. You can the posts by AartiAnu and Sidelower. Many thanks to you.
