Despite the storm on Thursday I managed my way to Stony Brook, Long Island for another PilotGirl assignment. I wrapped just before the sun disappeared over the Stony Brook bay and quickly scurried the area for shots.
Historic Stony Brook Center is a sleepy little hamlet on the north shore of Long Island. There’s a working grist mill, wetlands cruises from the marina and centuries-old homesteads to visit. The charm continues with the Long Island Museum of American Art with the largest collection of horse-drawn carriages in the nation and shopping spree at Main Street Village Center on the Harbor.
A friend insisted I dine at the acclaimed Mirabelle Three Village Inn surrounded by cozy fireplaces to enjoy a three-course prix fixe of French cuisine. My stomach growled but not for $42 worth of Duck Confit or Baked Stuffed Clams Oreganata.
However, this would make for a wonderful day visit during the summer in 2013. Check out these links for more info: www.stonybrookvillage.com, www.longislandmuseum.org, www.wmho.org and www.frankmelvillepark.org.
