Christmas Dress Up

Lalique Henri Bendel Window

Christmas window shopping on the unrivaled Fifth Avenue in NYC is affordable when its historical.

Tiffany and Company, Bulgari, Cartier, Arpels, Van Cleef, Saks, Bergdorf-Goodman, Louis Vuitton, Prada… you get the idea. None of these shops are even remotely attainable for the bourgeoisie but that’s okay if you enjoy history. The buildings themselves are dripping in beauty too and you’re bound to find a sales clerk wanting to brag about it.

The above photo is of the iconic Lalique windows preserved from the landmark Rizzoli and Coty buildings. Inside is the 1895 Henri Bendel luxury store where girlie girls pour over handbags, perfumes, makeup and accessories that only Santa could afford. A friendly gal brought the windows to our attention when browsing a box of half-price Black and White Skinnies.

“You know these Prestat chocolate wafers are the Queen Mum’s favorite,” she said, offering up a sample and then pointing to areas of the store where I could get the best views of the four-story town mansion.

On our way back to our hotel we passed this rather disturbing window display. What in the world is “Quality Italian?”
