Sorry ladies but this is not American actor, film director, producer, and screenwriter George Clooney playing the part of a diving profession. This is Mike Rogen – Dive Master for Albany’s one and only Seguin’s Scuba Center and owner of RogScuba.com.
Rogen helped me brush up on my SCUBA skills at Mohonasen High School last night. Mohonasen has a beautiful and fairly new pool with depths of 12-feet, which is no ocean but deeper than most pools.
Several certified PADI instructors were on hand to help new students learn the basics while Rogen took SCUBA buddy Devon and myself through the paces of remembering how to assemble our gear, equalize properly and the all important step – not to panic!
Why the need to refamiliarize myself with SCUBA? Because, as luck would have it, I’ve been asked last minute to dive with my underwater camera in Roatan, a “Traveler’s Choice” island off the coast of Honduras in the western Caribbean Sea. I’ll be escaping this brutal cold on Wednesday for three quick days of underwater paradise. Yes, I am pinching myself.
Moreover, I hope to blog every day I’m in country with photos and video snippets of each dive. Should you have ever wondered what it’s like to dive the second largest barrier reef in the world, with names like “Calvin’s Crack’ and ‘Spooky Channel’ and ‘Enchanted Forest’ and ‘Doc’s Elbow’, follow along next Wednesday when the adventure begins.
