Heavy rains this week caused devastating flood damage throughout Montgomery County, especially in Fort Plain. The farming community, 55-miles west of Albany, was ravaged by massive flooding that destroyed homes, businesses and taking the life of one senior trapped in her home. Understandably, John and Doug postponed the “Journey Along the Erie Canal” because of it.
But, today, the team resumed the ride with the staff and consumers of Liberty ARC coming out to say hello in Canajoharie and again at “Yankee Hill” Lock No. 28. They wore yellow shirts imprinted with the Liberty ARC mantra “Caring about each other. Committed to the Community” along with the “Our Ability” sponsor logo on the backside.
“Anything to celebrate and support diversity in our county” said Liberty CEO, Michael Decker.
Traces of the Erie Canal can be seen at several locations both while biking the Erie Canal Corridor, driving it or boating the Mohawk River. Riding the rails will also give you a feel for the rich industrial history of Montgomery County.
