Stuttgart: Car Capital of the World




It all started with Ferdinand Porsche, an Austrian-German automotive engineer best known for creating the first hybrid vehicle, the Volkswagen Beetle. No, actually it was earlier with August Horch, the brainchild of Audi, the manufacturing giant. Wait, the God of all we drive is actually Gottlieb Daimler, the inventor of the automobile.

Stuttgart is feeling more and more like the “Car Capital of the World” as we explore museums and cities throughout Baden-Württemberg. The Swabian tourist destination is a big hit among car buffs from not only Germany but internationally.

My boyfriend George, a car mechanic is enjoying the ride of his life this week.

“Where else in the world can you go and find 50 years of 911’s under your nose” he said, as we explored the Porsche Museum.

Even Bavarian beer doesn’t measure up to the thrill of seeing history unfold in cities bedecked with half-timbered houses. Later today, we visit Meilenwerk, a car connoisseurs dream home.
