Today was spent admiring the prep work that goes into recreating one of history’s most important battles.
Along the Neilson House hillside hundreds of white tents are being readied while, along the British front, General John Burgoyne’s patriotic yeomen are muzzle-loading field cannons while exhausted German soldiers (called Hessians in 1777) are practicing capitulation.
This weekend, the Saratoga National Historical Park commemorate their 75th anniversary as part of the national parks system with 200 Revolutionary War history buffs demonstrating the battle fought here on Sept. 19, 1777.
The victories not only marked a turning point in the war for American independence but resulted in some of the most beautiful rolling farmland in the the region preserved for eternity.
