Mother’s Day Travel Ideas

Can't forget the dog if you go hiking with your Mom (Mutti) on Sunday.
Can’t forget the dog if you go hiking with your Mom (Mutti) on Sunday.
You already know your mom is a wonderful woman but, deep down, is she secretly an adrenaline junkie too?

Balancing work with cooking, cleaning and raising you, she’s the proverbial glue that holds the family together. For years, she played it safe but deep down there was always a bucket list. How about surprising her with a new travel experience – an adventure where she can feel young again. Here’s some ideas, a few that I can vouch that my Mutti enjoyed!

1. White Water Rafting on the Hudson River Gorge
Spring time equals big water and there’s no better time than now to brave the rapids. I’ve done this with Mutti who begs to return to this exhaustive-soaked sport.

2. Hiking the Adirondacks
Mountains have the power to enchant and excite. Awaken mom’s passion for wild places with a hike up one of 46 Adirondack High Peaks. Regardless of ability, there are beautiful summits and breathtaking waterfalls to enjoy along both easy or challenging terrain.

3. Zipline at Hunter Mountain
Mom is done with hanging up your laundry. Time now for her to hang loose from the longest and highest line in North America. At nearly 600 feet feet above the ground, you and mom can go tandem soaring at 50 miles per hour.

4. Tandem Skydive
I’ve seen 80 and 90 year olds take the plunge so if they can do it, you and your best friend can perch your selves on the edge of a perfectly good airplane with a tandem master and let gravity be your friend. And, yes, it will change your life.

5. Catamount Adventure Park
It’s a 10 acre heart-pumping aerial adventure land called CAAP, for short. Navigate aboard the treetops where the forest buds are busting open with lush green foliage. For Mothers Day only, Mom’s climb for free around 9 self-guided courses and 3 re-designed ziplines.

6. Hot Air Balloon Ride
If the winds aren’t too strong, float lazily away with mom beneath a colorful canopy of a hot air balloon. This unique experience provides you will a birds-eye view of the Adirondacks, Lake George, Saratoga Springs and the Green Mountains of Vermont.

7. Got an idea to share? Let me know and I’ll keep adding to the list.
