It’s Alive! Horseshoe Crabs in Cape May
He brought his nets, poles and pocket knife to the beach today but, other than catching a few small fish to bait bigger fish, I don’t think this young Jersey angler hooked his winning trophy. The white sandy beaches of North Cape May may lack hungry Tuna but not prehistoric horseshoe crabs. The beach is covered with smelly carcasses from these living fossils.
The antropods are temporary protected in New Jersey so using them as bait or harvesting them is against the law.
The underside of this female horseshoe crab shows it’s spidery legs and book gills.
