The Queen Mary in Long Beach, Steaming to the Top…
On the plane ride out to Long Beach I read a couple of guidebooks and must admit there wasn’t a lot of pro LB cheering. It was subtle but still, well there. The Queen Mary took the most heat with terms like a bit washed out. Happy to report I found nothing bleached on my visit. It was great to explore the magical shop done up to the nines. Ups guess I’m sounding washed up. Truly I really enjoyed the ship and things like its amazing woodwork, out of the 26 different woods used 6 are now extinct. The history alone well worth a visit and as night approached the view of LB stunning. The ship is now also part hotel and the suite I saw terrific, more about that in my Checking In blog.
We also had dinner at one great restaurant on board called Winston’s, the food amazing and matched perfectly with the setting. I’m told it is popular for occasions; it is enough to make getting a haircut an occasion. Not cheap but value wise worth it. In fact it isn’t the only thing I found not right in the guidebooks about LB, but then again that’s why I’m here to check it out.
