Waterbury based ice carving company Ice Matters was part of Danbury’s First Night 2010 -2011 celebrations. Covered from head to toe in rain-proof gear, chef-turned-ice-carver Matt sawed away at the ice with unwavering concentration stopping only to smooth the edges with a steaming hot iron.
The sculptures were part of a wide variety of programs ranging from a 5K run to magic, music, fireworks, crafts and more. The entire event lasted for a little over four hours. Keeping the city’s hat-making history in mind, the theme was a “Hat Full of Magic”.
Danbury put on a good show this year and has been doing so for many years now. It seems that we travel far and wide all year round looking for adventure and excitement, sometimes overlooking the fun that can be had just around the corner.
