Speed shop in a mall but don’t make the mistake of rushing through this botanical garden. Landscape designers were busy wrapping stems and trunks with miles of LED lights in brilliant color combinations. The Coastal Maine Botanical Garden (CMBG for short) is a magical living wonder of natural abundance and wild aesthetics both in the summer and winter.
Just an hour’s drive northeast of Portland, we roamed the grounds during a late October harvest but starting November 15 everything will be redecorated into “Gardens Aglow,” the biggest and brightest light display in Maine!
The sheer magnitude of this horticultural Eden is simply overwhelming. From a maze of pumpkin patches to a greenhouse of colorful monarchs to a zen footpath dotted with waterfalls, pavilions, and a tea room, there’s something for everyone. A basin of carved stone in the Meditation Garden was a real eye-turner. We took joy in the magnificence of the fall foliage, meanwhile, many aromatic annuals were still in bloom.
Here’s a photo of what the festive holiday offers from November 15 – December 31.
