“You realize, it was me who invented it?  Yup, that’s right, all me and very few people know that,” smiles the bearded mustache behind a makeshift cooking table.

“Hmmm, the nursery rhyme?” I’m guessing.

“No, the chicken nugget!” grinned Peter Piper of Pennyslvania Pickle fame.

Peter’s real name is Monty and his business poster reads “Home Of The Crazy Cucumber,” but, honestly, after his fast-food confession, I’m questioning his sanity in foods.   Between swigs of really, really, bad beer and mumblings about a lost cigar he tries to focus on pickles, not chicken.

He whisks slices into a cajun batter in a large bowl and tosses the contents into a scorching hot deep frier.   The queue for his sour, sweet and hot dill pickles (and veggie mixes) stretches all the way back to Fisherman’s Fare restaurant.

Cape Vincent celebrated their 50th Annual French Festival with what appeared to be record-breaking attendance.   This normally quiet hamlet at the mouth of the Lake Ontario on the St. Lawrence River was overwhelmed with visitors from all over the country and between borders.   The area was first explored in the 17th Century by French explorers and missionaries hence the reason for celebrating French heritage.

Suddenly, Monty gets a verbal licking from his wife for talking too much.   The distraction is costing them business and, besides, the parade is about to start with Napoleon leading the way.  At dusk, a gala fireworks display was ignited from the Breakwall on the waterfront said to be the best show in the 1000 Islands region.

Streets neighboring the St. Lawrence River are blocked off for pedestrian shopping.
A petting zoo is a favorite for kids and photographers.
You know you live in the North Country when a float like this wins a spot in the parade.
