You might have read my lament in the last post about working alone, day after day, and how it was making me finally feel a bit insane. Well, as I had hoped, today in the Recorder came great news that just might be my ticket out of this lonely self-imposed prison.

Jeremy Goldsher, the c0-manager of Greenfield’s Arts Block, announced a new partnership with Jeff Sauser to open up a co-working space on the third floor of their recently renovated building in the center of town.  I’ve been hoping for something like this, and by God, it’s happening!

The pair met at an event that I attended….a Valley Ventures Mentors session held at the Arts Block. They got to talking and realized that Greenfield was a perfect place to adopt a trend that is sweeping the country–co-working spaces.  As I write this, major renovations are taking place in Amherst at the new Amherst Works co-working spot in a former bank in the center of town, and the new Click Workspace has opened up a large new space on Market Street in Northampton.

But neither of these locations was just right for me, neither was the CoLab that opened a few years ago in Easthampton. All of these have problems with affordable parking, voracious meter maids and they are all just a bit further than I want to drive every day.  So this new GreenSpace sounds like the perfect compromise. And so far, the price point of $100 a month for a simple membership will also fit my budget.

I like how Goldsher explained the appeal of a c0-working space just above a lively bar and nightclub. “The idea of being able to go in and work with your friends who are in a completely different sector, finish the work day and then have a beer downstairs while watching some live music is just totally different from anything else that’s in this current landscape,” he said.
